Co-op members raise £2227 to support Dementia Group at The Bureau!
Thank you so much to the Co-op and its members for raising an amazing £2,227 for the Dementia Group at The Bureau in Glossop through the Co-op Local Community Fund! This money will not only benefit the people that come to the dementia group and their carers, it will also look at their needs as we recover from the pandemic and see how best to support them in the future. The funding will be used to:
- enable the group to meet each week – during Covid-19 the group has not been able to meet face to face but with the support of our wonderful volunteers we have been calling those that attend the group every week to keep in touch, check in, help them with any problems, signpost them to support and simply have a chat. This has been hugely valuable and a lifeline, particularly for carers who were very isolated during lockdown. Also, we have been able to get the group meeting via Zoom, which has been another way of connecting people, they have sung songs, talked about their homes and families and reminisced about the past
- provide different activities at the group and trips out – when these can happen safely
- respite opportunities for carers whilst their loved one safely attends the group, they can have a bit of time for themselves to meet with other carers or even pop to a café
- help establish a Dementia Friendly Glossop Group, which will look at what is available in the area and assess this against the needs of people with dementia
It’s so important that we can provide support to people with dementia and their carers so we would like to say a big thank you to the Co-op and its members!
