Dorothy was transferred to Shire Hill Hospital after a series of falls and in-patient stays in Tameside Hospital.
Whilst Dorothy is a very sociable person she would not generally go to the lounge to watch television or chat to others. However she was keen to get involved if there was a specific activity going on or group coming together. As a result Dorothy became an active member of the weekly Friends of Shire Hill social group.
During her visits to the Friends of Shire Hill group volunteers from The Bureau built up a good relationship with Dorothy and were able to talk to her about the different services, social groups and activities available across Glossopdale.
As a result, following discharge from hospital Dorothy has joined the volunteer car scheme, which gets her out to medical appointments and social groups, attends the Tai Chi class at the Methodist Church, and also attends the weekly seated exercise class at Bradbury House.
Dorothy feels that the Tai Chi and seated exercise classes have helped to improve her balance and mobility.
