Peer Support Activities

Welcome to The Bureau's Peer Support Activities!

We have a variety of groups and programs designed to bring people together, provide support, and create a sense of community. Join us and let’s grow together!

Monday Group at the Norfolk

Join us at the Norfolk pub to meet members of our local community and connect with a community navigator who can address any queries or concerns you may have. This group is open to anyone who is socially isolated, struggling with life events, or feeling lonely. We also have social events throughout the year. Donations are welcome, but there is no cost to participate.

People who are socially isolated, people who are struggling with life events, and people who are lonely. People who need social support and advice.

For more information, please contact Lauren Hastie on 01457 865722 or laurenh@the-bureau.org.uk

Tuesday Brew Crew

Our Tuesday morning Brew Crew group is a fun, relaxed welcoming group. The group has been meeting at Hadfield Methodist church every Tuesday for nearly two years now. Each week we do quizzes, play games or just sit and chat, all, as the name suggests, over good brew and biscuit! Last year we enjoyed a trip out to North Yorkshire Wildlife Park and later this summer we are heading off to Crich. We are a very inclusive group and welcome all!

The group has really helped me out. Even after my ‘blip’ the group made me feel better. It is a place where I can get help and advice.

Group meets: Hadfield Methodist Church, Hadfield 10:30am – 12:00pm

For more information, please contact Mat on 01457 865722 or matthew@the-bureau.org.uk

Tuesday Dementia Friendly Group

Join us at the Geoffrey Allen Centre in Gamesley for a safe and empathetic environment where you can share time with others. This group is perfect for those who are lonely or looking to widen their network of friends. We engage in games and crafts while promoting values of trust and empathy. Donations are welcome, but there is no cost to participate.

This group makes such a difference to Margaret, we see her laughing and talking when she is here.

Tuesday Cast On

The Cast On group meets on a Tuesday afternoon at Hadfield Methodist. You don’t have to be an expert with a set of needles or crochet hooks to come along, in fact many of the that have joined have either come along to dust up their skills or even learn from scratch. The group is a welcoming group and all that come along quickly feel part of the group. We have took on the challenge of knitting warm clothing for Homeless charities in High Peak.

Really helps my mental health. There is always someone to talk to, and a place where I can support others.

Group meets: Hadfield Methodist Church, Hadfield 12:00am – 2:00pm

Together Growing

If you enjoy gardening activities or simply spending time outdoors, this group is for you! We provide an inclusive and friendly environment where you can work on gardening projects, engage in light physical activity, and connect with others. Regardless of the weather, we welcome those who don’t mind getting a little muddy. There is no cost to participate.

I feel like we are doing something worthwhile, and I want to see this project through to the end.

Forest Folk

This group for men is one of our more structured groups, running for 6-8 weeks at a time. The group hosted at Inside Out Forest School, provides a safe space for men to talk through issues like resilience, creativity and vulnerability whilst reflect on goals for the future. All of this is done alongside having a go at some woodcraft activities and experimenting with campfire cooking.

Even though the activities and being in a group setting is outside of my comfort zone I have enjoyed the group and what we have done. It has felt normal, which surprises him. It has quite an impact on my mental health for the positive

Group meets: Gnat Hole Farm, Thursday 10:00pm-12:00pm

Spaces for this group are limited so if you are interested please contact Mat on 01457 865722 or matthew@the-bureau.org.uk

Thursday Friends

This group which is primarily for those with Dementia (and their carers), meets at Bradbury House every Thursday (first Thursday of the month the group go out for a meal). The group is a supportive caring place, where all feel valued and accepted. Each week we sing songs, play games and once a month go for a meal. We have also enjoyed watching films together.

Friday Time Out

One of our longest running groups, Time Out takes place 11am – 1pm every Friday from our central Glossop hub. Come along for a brew, a spot of bingo and a chat with new friends, and also get some support with your shopping! Time Out is specifically intended to support people to get out and about in Glossop to pick up their weekly bits and bobs. One of our friendly and helpful volunteers can support you as you mooch down to Mettricks for your bacon, Sowerbutts for your fresh veg and even pop into Embellish to check out some gifts!
