The Digital Healthcare Support Service

What is the Digital Healthcare Support Service?

Delivered by the Bureau, the Digital Healthcare Support Service (DHSS) is part of Tameside and Glossop’s Digital Wellbeing Programme, which aims to tackle digital exclusion in the locality. It is made up of:

  1. The Digital Wellbeing Project, delivered by PCrefurb – this supports people to develop beginner level digital skills and build confidence in using devices to access online services.
  2. The Digital Healthcare Support Service (DHSS), delivered by The Bureau – This specifically focuses on helping people to access GP online services and health apps.

We have workshops and volunteers available throughout Tameside and Glossop who can help you learn how to:

For Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the delivery of this Programme of work, supporting those who are digitally excluded to get online and grow their digital skills. The DHSS particularly focuses on supporting people in how to use health apps, with the aim of allowing easier and more convenient access to services at GP surgeries without having to call or visit the practice, and encouraging people to manage health conditions more independently.

As a Digital Champion volunteer, you will work with people in your community to help them develop their digital skills – you will show them how to use online services in order to help with day-to-day activities and improve their health and wellbeing.

You might be supporting people to do things like:

  • Set up an email address
  • Learn how to use video call apps
  • Do their weekly shop online
  • Order a repeat prescription or book an appointment via an app
  • And much more!

You might work with someone in a community venue, at a GP surgery, or in the client’s own home. It totally depends on the client’s needs, and your own preferences!
