Bureau donation shares the warmth during cold snap

A Glossop charity has done its bit to ensure the homeless stay warm this winter.

The Bureau, the community self-help charity, has donated hot water bottles, blankets, coats and thermos flasks to help keep local homeless people warm during the extended cold snap.

The donation were made to Hyde based Sandwich Angels which provides freshly made sandwiches, soups and warm drinks for 16 soup kitchens and homeless people across Tameside and Greater Manchester from food donations.

Damien Greenhalgh, Partnership and Operations Manager at The Bureau said:

“Sleeping on the streets at any time of the year can be cold and unkind at the best of times but with the recent deluge of snowfall, plummeting temperatures and icy winds the conditions for those unfortunate to be on the streets must be absolutely horrendous. The Bureau is therefore only too pleased to be able to be donating these items at this time.” Adding “We could not think of a better group than Sandwich Angels to put the items to such valuable use after learning of the fantastic work they due from staff member Rebecca Hyde”

Christina Howard, founder of Sandwich Angels, said:

“We are hugely thankful to The Bureau for their generous donations and to our volunteer Jolene Hampson who arranged the collection of the items for up. They were loaded up and handed out that very evening to grateful people enduring the bitter cold on the streets.”

The group is always looking for more donations of food, clothing, tea/coffee, sandwich bags, thermos flasks and food vouchers.
